COMMUNICATION ROOM OF THE "NORTH POLE" DRIFTING STATION
- Two professional communications specialists are included in the station's personnel.
- The communication specialists living quarters are located in a separate cabin (tent), and the communication room is in a separate, appropriately set up location. Radio equipment is stored on a long shelving unit, and transmitters are bracketed onto the cabin's walls.
- The communication room is usually included in the unit with the meteorological station, with a connecting hallway in between.
Main Tasks
- Provide for a constant radio connection of the North Pole drifting station with the mainland.
- Transmit weather information according to the schedule.
- Transmit the station's messages and the personnel's private correspondence.
- In addition, establish radio connection with airplanes and helicopters passing the area.
- Manage flights and establish communication with ice observers during the navigation season.
- Antennas and mast equipment include: masts with the length of 13.8 meters, guys, ropes. Buckets filled with water are used as anchors.
- The station always contains a local telephone station, which is located in the mess hall and is used for communication between the living and office areas.
- Speakers are used to inform the station's personnel about breaks in the ice flow and hummocking.
- Every cabin (tent) has a speaker which transmits radio programs, broadcasted by Mayak and other radio stations, and can be used to communicate with the personnel's families.
- In cases of poor radio transmission due to Aurora Borealis, magnetic storms, etc., the station always includes a satellite communication system Iridium.
- Equipment: transmitter Bark-2, wireless radio Volna-K, Sosna, Cycloida, teletype T-100, antennas Berkhan.
