      HEATING OF NORTH POLE DRIFTING STATION

    • The station is heated with fuel oil ("APSN", Vengerka, Almaatinka).
    • Oil heaters have been successfully utilized for many years.
    • These heaters require relatively low amount of fuel for operation (20 liters per day).
    • They can be set to regulate the amount of fuel and the temperature.
    • All living and office spaces have fans to assist in moving cold air (from the bottom) and hot air (from the top).
    • This creates and sustains comfortable temperatures in living and office spaces.
    • The mess-room, galley, Russian bath, and diesel room are heated with hot water, by utilizing diesel-generator's energy.
    • A comfortable temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius is sustained in the entire complex.
