DIESEL STATION OF THE "NORTH POLE" DRIFTING STATION

    • Diesel generators are selected based on capacity required for planned research programs, selected during the planning period.
    • Usually the station includes two diesel generators (2E16A), an emergency generator (1E8P) and AB-4, AB-1 (Honda, Suzuki, or other brands).
    • Diesel station is located in two adjacent cabins. One contains two diesel generators, the other the electric panel and a supply of diesel oil.
    • Power cables from diesel generator to the main panel are placed in a special box. Power supply is automated.
    • A workbench is attached to a beam for equipment repairs, including metal work.
    • A full supply of fire prevention equipment is available on the diesel station (fire extinguishers OU-5 and OU-8, cloth asbestos, buckets, spades, axes, picks.
    • In the second cabin, next to the main panel, rubber mats and rubber gloves are available.
    • Exhaust pipe openings are covered with asbestos casing.
    • Diesel power station is usually located close to the mechanics' living quarters, the bath, and the mess hall, because these areas are heated through the diesel engines' cooling process.
    • Separate cable connections allow power supply to any location to be quickly turned off in case of a crack in the ice floe.
    • During the polar night, the camp is lit with large mercury lamps and a searchlight, if necessary.
