      RUSSIAN BATH OF THE "NORTH POLE" DRIFTING STATION

    • The bath is located next to the diesel station.
    • It is set up in a separate cabin (tent) and consists of a steam room, washroom, and changing room.
    • The bath can accommodate two to four persons at a time. Besoms are prepared in advance, and in the winter are dropped off together with a Christmas tree and mail.
    • Washroom contains two benches, and can accommodate four to six persons at a time.
    • Changing room is located in a warm middle room, which is equipped with ventilation.
    • The boilers can hold up to 4,000 liters to make hot and cold water constantly available on bath days.
    • Personnel on duty thoroughly cleans the bath, the day before and the day after the wash day.
    • The station's doctor monitors health condition of persons in the steam room, and of those inveterate bathers who take a dip in the ice-hole.
    • Clean underwear is provided on bath days (four times a month).
    • Water for bathing is prepared by melting down ice with electric heaters in a specially designated shaft (hole). It is pumped into the boilers via pipes, leftover water is used for cooking and household needs.
