DIESEL ROOM OF THE ARCTIC EXPEDITION

    • Diesel room is a tent set up for diesel generators and emergency generators.
    • Its set up and space are analogous to that of the living quarters, however the diesel room does not require a corridor, as an additional cold and wind protection is not necessary due to the continuous operation of diesel generators.
    • The tent is set up close to the mess hall, in order to decrease the length of cables providing the mess hall with required electricity.
    • The experience of previous expeditions showed that it is preferable to store transportation devices (i.e., snow mobile Yamaha) in the warm diesel room, which allow for a quick start of the snow mobile's engine.
    • All tools for repairs and maintenance of diesel generators and transportation devices are stored in the diesel room.
    • The expedition's mechanic is responsible for order and fire safety in the diesel room.
